I am obsessed with exposing life’s hidden moments that hold us back, probing into psychological realities through recognizable characters and identifiable settings. I create to understand life’s complexities in their simplest form. Where life may be perceived as scary, painful, or confusing, I seek inherent joy and reason. I look to find truth.’

Joyce King, Artistic Director

JKing Dance Company (JKDC), based in Brooklyn, NY, is an all female ensemble, increasingly advancing in recognition as ‘.... undeniably emotional, unabashedly raw and most importantly real.... .(Jenny Thompson/Examiner).

Our innovative repertory, created by Artistic Director, Joyce King, questions truth and the impact of personal, social, and global choices. The artistry of her dancers is athletic, and tender, bringing life to ‘....vigorous, full-bodied movement sections that lead to a vivid sense of catharsis.’  (Jamie Townsend/Dance Explorer)

JKDC provides dance opportunities for artists, encourages self-awareness, and diversity in perspective, through the vigor and ardor of contemporary dance and storytelling. The theatrical, technical, and intricate quality of King’s choreography evokes audiences to characterize her work as, ‘thought- provoking emotionally moving, and physically athletic”.

JKDC’s teaching artists have a diverse wealth of experience, ranging from professional trainee classes at the Joffrey Ballet School and open professional/nonprofessional classes at Steps on Broadway in NYC, internationally and nationally workshops and master classes, privately owned studios, public school residencies, private special education care, and on the panel of adjudicators for choreographic showcases, auditions. The varied nature of our backgrounds provides a wholly comprehensive experience for artists, and effectively blends the boundaries of learning.

JKDC’s pedagogy incorporates the technique of dance with storytelling to promote and strengthen technique, vocabulary, self expression, character study and body awareness. Our vision is in educating and assisting dancers and movers of all levels, through performance opportunities, workshops, and after school residency programs.
